Sheriff’s office warns about phone calls impersonating an officer

Nye County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning to residents regarding annoying phone calls from someone identifying himself as an officer.

Authorities have received several reports from Pahrump residents who have received a phone call from someone purporting to be “Lt. Woods from the Nye County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Division.”

Sgt. David Boruchowitz said the Nye County Sheriff’s Office has no employee named Woods working within the ranks and the phone calls should be considered pranks.

He also said the individual, an adult male, has not asked for money yet.

“The phone calls appear to be different,” he said. “The caller said they are from the warrant division, but they’re not specifically requesting money, but why else would you do something like that if you are not trying to get something.”

Nye County Sheriff’s Office cautions everyone not to provide any personal and financial information over the phone if you cannot verify who is calling.

Anyone can verify whether a person is actually an employee from the sheriff’s office by calling the dispatch line at 775-751-7000.

Those who have also received similar calls are urged to contact the Nye County Sheriff’s Office at that number.
