Student arrested for bringing gun to Rosemary Clarke Middle School

A Nye County School District student was arrested at Rosemary Clarke Middle School yesterday for bringing a gun onto campus.

The Nye County Sheriff’s Office said they were dispatched to Rosemary Clarke at 8:55 a.m. Monday morning, in reference to a student who had brought a firearm to school.

At the time of the call, sheriff’s deputies were told that school officials had the firearm secured and the student detained in the office at the time of call.

After arriving on the scene, police discovered that another student at the middle school reported the fellow student possessing a firearm in their bag to a school staff member. The staff member confiscated the bag without incident from the student in question.

There was no ammunition found with the weapon.

Police said that there were no reports that the student displayed the firearm in a threatening manner to any students or staff during their initial investigation.

The juvenile was taken into custody without incident and turned over to juvenile parole and probation.
