Summer food program in Nye County offers free meals for kids

School may be out for kids in Nevada, but the need for healthy meals never ends.

More than 3,300 students in Nye County are eligible for free and reduced lunch, making up nearly 67 percent of the student population.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Summer Food Service program is open to children and teens all summer long, no questions asked.

Sites throughout the state offer free meals daily for kids with no enrollment required.

The Summer Food Service and Seamless Summer Option programs served 879,582 meals at 366 sites across Nevada in 2016 and plan to serve at least that many meals in 2017.

Below is a list of summer meal sites in Nye County. Parents and kids can also find a meal site near them by texting “FOOD” to 877-877, visiting freesummerfood.org, or calling 1-866-348-6479.
