Unemployment in Nye Remains Flat

The unemployment rate in Nye County held steady for the month of August as the rate saw no change from July.

The unemployment rate stayed the same percentage-wise at 8.7 percent in the county.

The exact numbers changed slightly in August as the labor force was marked at 16,282, compared to July's number of 16,425.

Of the available labor force, 14,862 held jobs in August, with 1,420 being unemployed. This is in contrast to July's number of 14,993 that held jobs, with 1,432 being without jobs.

Comparing the latest numbers to last year at the same time, the numbers have improved there.

August 2014 showed the labor force in Nye County at 16,161, with 14,671 of those possessing jobs, and 1,490 being without work. This resulted in an unemployment rate of 9.2 percent.

The number represents the second lowest the unemployment rate has been this year, as it dipped to 8.4 percent in May.
