Valley Cruisers auto show marks 20th anniversary on Saturday

Valley Cruisers will be showing off the best automobiles the area has to offer at the 20th annual Over the Hump to Pahrump Show and Shine this weekend.

Taking place Saturday at Petrack Park, located at Highway 160 and Basin Road, there are 12 different categories car enthusiasts can enter under, which includes all years, makes and models.

From original cars, modified original, hot rods and street rods all the way up to special interest vehicles that include drag, race off-road, vans, RV’s and motorcycles. There’s a category for anyone interested in showing off.

“Last year we saw 165 cars and over 20 vendors, “ said, Chuck Fullen, president of Valley Cruisers. “You never know how many cars will show up until the day of the show.”

Proceeds from the event go to benefit children of the area, through various charities and causes.

“We normally generate around $6,000 for the kids of Pahrump,” Fullen said. “We do it through different organizations. We do Food For Thought, 4-H, some through the schools, Toys for Tots, the Lions Club and we pay for free swims on Fourth of July and Memorial Day.”

The event holds a raffle, which helps bulk up the money the event generates, which instead of doing one big prize, this year Fullen explained the prizes will be divided up, giving several opportunities for attendees to win.

“We’re going to bundle five of them, we don’t have any one grand prize, we think the value of those will be between $300 and $500 each,” he said.

Each bundle will include various prizes including: tools, night stays at local casinos, food, hair products and a Bluetooth device, among other prizes.

There will also be 16 vendors on hand offering various services, helping keep those in attendance refreshed and ready to enjoy the sights of the event.

The Lions Club will be serving hamburgers and hot dogs. Shaved ice and Italian fare are just some of the choices that will be offered according to Lee Cromer, special events coordinator of Valley Cruisers.

Vendors are encouraged to arrive to set up from 6.a.m. to 7 a.m.

With rain putting a damper on last year’s event, Fullen said a lot of entries waited until the day of the event, which requires an extra fee.

There is a $30 fee for all entering a vehicle in the show, which includes a free show T-shirt while supplies last. Admission is free to the public.

There are best of show prizes offered to the top two placers in each category, making for a total of 24 awards to be given out.

This year’s event appears to have clear weather, as according to the National Weather Service the anticipated high temperature is 84, with zero percent chance of rain.

Registration starts at 7 a.m. and runs through 11 a.m., with the car show running from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

All entrants will be required to sign a liability release prior to being granted a place in the show.
