VFW riders to meet in Beatty for Vegas run

Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Nevada members from all around the Silver State are set to make a group motorcycle ride next week leading up to its statewide convention.

VFW riders from the three regions of the state, the north, the south and the central, will meet in Beatty at the VFW Post 12108 John Strozzi, located at 300 W. Main Street at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, in order to travel together to Las Vegas to attend the statewide convention held at the Palace Station Hotel and Casino.

“What we’re doing, because we’re riders from all over the state, instead of trickling in little small groups, we’re going to meet in Beatty and ride into Las Vegas together as one large group,” said Dennis Soukup, Southern Nevada state captain.

Paull Engs, VFW central captain, said the group will meet up and have a meal together before setting out on their journey.

“We’ll (Central riders) meet in Beatty and have lunch with the Northern and Southern riders, then we’re all going to run in to Las Vegas,” he said.

The convention runs from Thursday, June 11, until Saturday, June 13, and will feature a variety of events and speakers during the three-day happening.

There are also pre-convention meetings taking place Wednesday, June 10, from specific organizations.

Soukup was not sure of the amount of riders that will make the trek, as he mentioned it could vary from anywhere around 10, up to 70 riders on the approximately 120-mile trip.
