What happened to the real Christmas?

What ever happened to the “Partridge in a Pear Tree”?? As a youngster, we always used to sing “The Twelve days of Christmas” at this time of year as a Christmas season carol, and we celebrated it from December 25 until January 6.

Nowadays it seems that we “celebrate” Christmas (or the so-called purpose of it) beginning sometime around Thanksgiving – when all the sales begin, and Christmas trees appear on corner lots – (and artificial ones in cardboard boxes).

Then, on December 26th, when the REAL Christmas season begins, they all disappear, and what folks received as gifts go back to the store to be exchanged for what they wanted to begin with!

Respectfully, but somewhat saddened,

Rev. (Fr.) E. A. Thompson
