Memorial Day service to be held at G.G. Sweet Park this year

Annual Memorial Day services have been held at the G.G. Sweet Veterans Memorial Park and Museum on Gamebird Road and Money Street since the year 2000.

Due to unforeseen circumstances this annual service was not conducted last year (2014). However, this year the traditional service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 24, 2015.

As in the past, the Army JROTC at Pahrump Valley High School will furnish a color guard, the Las Vegas Marines I & I Staff and Reserve unit will provide an honor guard and bugler. Boy Scout Troop #774, (Pahrump) will assist in paying homage to deceased men and women veterans of all services.

The general public is invited and welcome. The ceremony is scheduled for 30 minutes, chairs will be provided. As always, there is wheelchair access at the park and museum.

Maj. Roger Chaput, USMC, Ret.

Park Manager/Event Coordinator

Thank you for success of Willett benefit

To all of Joe Willett’s friends and acquaintances, I want to thank you for attending his benefit and signing the big poster. I want to especially thank Erin at the Hubb for letting them use the Hubb.

Thank you also to Mike Hickey, Cole Reeves, Carter Beggs and Matt Reeves for all their help. Cole and Carter were adopted sons to Joe and they considered him their second father. When all three would go someplace together I never knew what they would bring home or when. They had some real adventures.

After Joe came home from the hospital, Cole, Carter and my son Fernando would help a lot along with hospice care.

I am at a loss for more words except, thank you for all who came and I found that musicians are a very close-knit family. God bless you for caring.

Mary Willett and all Joe’s family,

Patricia Willett (mom), Diane Frolichstein (sister) and children Troy, Nikki, Natalee and Darron and all their familes

No response from sheriff on Jade Helm 15 drill

Our new sheriff can’t be bothered answering emails about concerns in our town.

I’ve been reading about the Jade Helm 15 military drill that has started across the country, and Nevada is supposed to be a part of it, including local police. I am concerned because some people think it is a precursor to martial law by the Obama administration. So I sent 3 separate emails, about a week apart, to our newly-elected sheriff, asking her if she was aware of it, and was the Nye County Sheriff’s Office going to be a part of it, or if she was going to take any kind of action in regards to it.

I’ve received no answer from the Sheriff’s Office or the sheriff.

I guess the new sheriff does not have an “open door policy” and Pahrump citizens don’t deserve a response from this elected official.
