Memorial for Ian Deutch inspiring event

On Sunday evening, April 26, the Town of Pahrump remembered Ian Deutch. It was a very sad occasion, but a very inspiring event.

I want to thank everyone who made it possible, and everyone who participated. Special thanks to Chaplain Drake Austin, Pastor Ron Fairbairn, Sheriff Sharon Wehrly, former Sheriff Tony DeMeo, Commissioner Butch Borasky, Detective Eric Murphy, Deputy Greg Curtin, Susan Holecheck of Nathan Adelson Hospice, a truly great, magnificent musician, Nick Giordono, and Congressman Cresent Hardy.

Ian Deutch was an awesome individual. We always say good things about people after they are gone, but people were saying good things about him long before.

Thank you for those who helped at accident

I would like to say thanks to the locals as well as the visitors to the community that stopped to help at the scene of Wednesday’s accident. ( If I could remember all their names I would put them in here but you all know who you are.). Being an off duty paramedic pulling up with no equipment and no trained coworkers was difficult but the bystanders were very helpful in a very stressful situation. The citizen heroes helped with calming patients, helping maintain airways and moving patients. I know a lot was going on and lots of directions were being given but you all did a great job. Thanks also to Pahrump Fire, NHP, and the NCSO for their professional and timely response.

STEVE SEBELIUS: Was Trump campaigning or trolling in Nevada?

If Trump’s visit was primarily a political stunt rather than a legitimate attempt to court the Nevada vote — and there’s reason to suspect it was — then give his campaign credit for a well-played weekend.

Will America be the next great civilization to fall?

As I watch and read the news reports of the shooting of the police officers in Compton, California, my faith in humankind’s future has doubts creeping around the edges of my thoughts.

DEBRA SAUNDERS: In exclusive interview, Trump slams Sisolak, defends indoor rally

President Donald Trump told the Review-Journal on Sunday that he did not believe he was subject to an order limiting gatherings to 50 people when he addressed a crowd of thousands at an indoor rally in Henderson.

Are we sure we are really ‘following the science’?

Now I don’t think that phrase, “follow the science” means what we think it means. I know we hear it a lot, but I’d like to show three instances when it just doesn’t really mean what we think it means.

I-15 traffic is proof that Nevada tourism is recovering

The amount of traffic from Southern California on I-15 into and out of Las Vegas for the Labor Day holiday is yet another strong indicator that people are suffering from COVID-19 pandemic fatigue and ready to get on with their lives.

Sisolak, Trump at odds from the very beginning

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak and President Donald Trump haven’t enjoyed the best relationship since Sisolak was elected in 2018.
