Beatty defeats Sandy Valley
The Lady Hornets basketball team this year was not expected to do much in this building year and yet they keep winning. They toppled the Sandy Valley Sidewinders 37-15 to improve to 3-1 in league and second place behind the Pahranagat Valley Panthers and tied with the Tonopah Muckers.
In conference play, the Muckers were the only team to give the Hornets problems this year. Hornets Coach Aimee Senior also expects the Panthers to give her problems too. Senior knows they will certainly be tough to beat this year.
The Panthers beat the Muckers last Friday at home 61-25. The Panthers are undefeated in league and are the defending league champions.
Senior was surprised to hear her team was in second place.
“We knew going into playing Sandy Valley that it was not going to be an easy game. Sandy Valley is continually improving and getting to be more competitive. We worked on our full court press. I thought this would help us get an advantage with them, which it did. We forced them to turn the ball over,” Senior said.
The coach said Christina Thompson couldn’t miss and she drove and shot from the outside. The rest of the team felt her energy and played as well too.
Senior said against Round Mountain she would like to see the team improve its rebounding.
Beatty will play Calvary Chapel tonight at 4 p.m. at home in non-league action. The team will then travel to Round Mountain and play the Knights at 3 p.m.
