Pet Waste Cleanup arrives in Pahrump Valley

Roughly a week after its last ribbon-cutting ceremony, officials from the Pahrump Chamber of Commerce once again welcomed a new business in town.

Pet Waste Cleanup was started back in February.

Owners Matthew and Paula Foley came up with a unique business venture for the community after doing a bit of research.

He noted that though many area residents are avid pet lovers, not all have time to clean up after their beloved companions.

Both arrived in Southern Nevada back in 2014, after living more than 30 years in California.

“We did some research to determine whether there was a niche possibility here for this type of business,” Foley said. “We got all the paperwork, filled it out and began knocking on doors throughout the community. We want to make our services available for the folks in Pahrump who have dogs, because it seems like just about everybody out here has dogs. Some people have more than one dog.”

Foley said he wanted to keep the process simple in terms of providing the service to local pet owners.

Fees are based on how many dogs are at the residence.

“We basically come to your home, do an interview and find out exactly what you want,” he said. “We will come in probably once a week, at your convenience, and keep everything clean and tidy so the pet owner won’t have to worry about the chore. It seems everybody is busy, they don’t have enough time to properly pick up after their pets.”

Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce Event Coordinator Vicky Hilling said she’s pleased to have yet another business as a member of the chamber.

“We are excited to have the owners of Pet Waste Cleanup as a member of the Pahrump Chamber of Commerce,” she said. “We have had ribbon cuttings the last two weeks, so we are growing and doing some good things out there in the community.”

Additionally, Hilling spoke about why it’s important for local businesses to consider becoming a chamber member.

“It allows businesses to become involved with the various activities that we provide,” she said. “It also gives him a chance to be part of the Pahrump Business Expo that is coming up. It’s a win-win for all and I get a lot of folks who will call and ask whether a local business is a member of the Chamber of Commerce.”

Foley, too, agreed that businesses that become chamber members have more legitimacy in the eyes of potential customers.

He noted that business is literally “picking up.”

“People tend to lean toward those businesses in the community that are members of the chamber of commerce,” he said. “The chamber holds a lot of weight in the community because being a member means you’re involved and embedded in the community. It gives a greater sense of trust for most people.”

As far as providing the service for owners of livestock in the community, Foley said he and his wife are considering the tasks.

“We have received calls about horse corral cleaning so we are investigating that possibility,” he said. “A lot of requests we’ve gotten for that, we’ve had to turn down. We are not quite ready for that because for now, we want help people with their dogs, with a special consideration for veterans in the valley.”

Foley is now working on getting a website established for his new business.

For now he’s using business cards and flyers.

“We also have a website set up through Facebook and the chamber of commerce, so we will be offering some discounts as soon as we find out what’s most important to the consumer,” he said. “We printed out some business cards and we have some really great looking fliers out there as well.”
