Beatty track ready to compete at regional meet

The Hornets track team finished its last meet of the season at the Boulder City Small School Invite,.Beatty finished 15 out 15 schools for the boys and 13 out 15 for the girls.

This is a deceiving score because Beatty would normally not run against most of these schools.

At the Southern regionals starting on May 8 for Beatty at Boulder City the girls team is ranking pretty high in many of the events.

In the 100-meter dash the girls will send four sprinters who are ranked in the top 10 in Division IV Southern Nevada: sophomore Vanessa Gamboa ranked second (14.24 seconds), sophomore Rosa Gutierrez ranked fifth (15.19), sophomore Abby Panlaqui ranked seventh (16.74) and Clara Garcia ranked ninth (17.66).

In the 200, Beatty will have three runners in the top 10: Gamboa ranked third (31.35), Gutierrez ranked fifth (32.55) and Panlaqui ranked eighth (35.91).

In the 400 the girls, will enter sophomore Alexi Gil ranked eighth (74.48) and Gamboa ranked ninth (75.87).

In field events, Beatty is missing the dominating jumper but still has some talent. Beatty will send two shot putters to the regional. Gil is ranked number one at 29 feet, eight inches and freshman Arianna Oseguera ranked fifth (24-04).

The Hornets will also send two Discus throwers, Oseguerra ranked seventh (59-9) and freshman Aysleen Guerra is ranked ninth (52-3).

In the triple jump, the girls will send Gil, who is ranked third (26-9.5).

The Beatty boys this year lack depth. The boys will send senior Brandon Cross in the 400 and he is ranked third (54.74). Senior Luis Flores will also run and is ranked 10th (58.7).

Junior Enrique Orozco is probably one of the top athletes for the Beatty Track team. He is number one in the 800 (2:14.90) the number two runner in the 1,600 (5:08.22) and third in the 3,200 (11:39.58). Junior Jorge Perez will also run in the 800 for the boys and he is ranked fifth (2:25.64).

There are two more ranked runners in the 1,600 for Beatty, sophomore Brandon Rebujio ranked fourth (5:20.6) and sophomore Michael Olson ranked sixth (5:32.10).

Olson is also running the 3,200 and his best time is right up there with Orozco. Olson is ranked second (11:34). Perez is ranked fourth (11:50.6) and Rebujio is ranked eighth (12:16.5).

The boys have two 300 hurdlers, freshman Jakob Everett, ranked eighth (50.6) and Octavio Maldonado, ranked ninth (52.94).

The Hornets have three ranked shot putters. The number two ranked thrower of the shot put, junior Bryan Ortiz (35-10), the number seven ranked thrower, senior Tristin Cann (32-10.2) and the number nine thrower, sophomore Robby Revert (32-0).

In the discus, Beatty has the seventh ranked thrower sophomore Jacob Ybara (82-5), eighth ranked sophomore Alejandro Granados (77-4) and tenth ranked Revert (73-5).

Beatty has four ranked high jumpers: Perez, ranked sixth (5-1), freshman Rowdie White, ranked sixth (5-1), Flores, ranked eighth (5-0) along with Everett (5-0).

Beatty will have the only entries for the pole vault in the Southern regional: junior Nate Russell, number one (9-6). Orozco and Flores are tied at number two (8-0).
