Hornets boys basketball off to a good start

Beatty boys basketball went 3-2 at the Snake Pit Basketball Tournament at Beaver Dam last weekend.

Hornets coach Steve Sullivan said it was a good learning experience for his boys.

“Overall, it was a good weekend of basketball for us,” the coach said. “We got a good look at some our league competitors. One of our issues during the tournament was consistency, which can happen easily if a team lets it. You play a lot of basketball in two days so you get tired physically and mentally.”

This showed, as the team lost a close game to Indian Springs 30-32 and then beat them later on 57-37.

The team also lost to a good Pahranagat Valley team 57-23.

The other two teams they beat were the JV Virgin Valley team, 37-33 and Liberty Baptist, 38-14.

Sullivan said his team will be working on their transition from offense to defense as well as rebounding.

“We will work on those two areas this week and see if there is any improvement this weekend at the Round Mountain Tournament,” Sullivan said.

The Hornets (4-2, Class 1A Southern) will start the Round Mountain tournament today at noon.
