The time of hunting and fishing conventions has come to an end and the hunting guides-outfitters have returned home to prepare for another season. I’m left with my head full of new stories and my sides still aching from laughing at the crazy tales and humorous, if sometimes dangerous, adventures we’ve shared at vendor booths, in the hallways, hotel rooms and yes, while sipping a beverage in the local “watering holes.”

TONOPAH — High school softball season has ended after the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association wrapped up its state championships on Saturday.
The Trojans girls volleyball team was at the Las Vegas Invitational, a high-quality tournament that sees some of the top volleyball teams in Nevada and California perform. Pahrump won one and lost five matches. Two of those teams ended up being in the top three at the tournament, Ramona and Central. Ramona won the tournament.
Nico Velasquez led the Trojans with a 49-yard touchdown reception and a 99-yard kickoff return for a score as the Trojans crushed Eldorado 38-10 on Friday in their home opener.

Four new members will be inducted to the Pahrump Valley High School Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday to bring the total members to 64.

I was walking past Petco Park today and saw hordes of Cubbies fans approaching for the afternoon game with the Padres, (the Cubs won 6-3, sweeping the series) and I started thinking about the Cubs’ chances of winning the pennant and overcoming the dreaded Billy Goat Curse.
He is one of the most personable guys I know. Over the past six years it has been hard to find a day where I haven’t talked to Ed Kirkwood. For those who haven’t met Ed, he is the Trojans athletic director and he is leaving for Florida today.
Football is back. The Trojans open the season hosting Eldorado High School, a Class 4A school in the Northeast League.

After six years with the Trojans, Ed Kirkwood is saying farewell and headed for greener pastures. Kirkwood’s last day as Trojans athletic director will be on Friday. He has not only has been the athletic director for the past two seasons, but has also coached many athletes over his time.
