Tonopah track brings home the medals
The Muckers track team was highly successful at the state track meet at Carson High School in Carson City on Friday and Saturday, bringing home 17 medals. In addition to the medals, the Muckers brought home two individual state championships and two relay state championships.
On Friday, runner Scotty May was crowned the Division IV State Champion in the 100 meters with a time of 11.47. He also went on to win the 200-meter run to take the state championship in that event.
In the 4x100 relay, Vinny Bagarose, Bobby Hunt, May and Jimmy Whiters became the Division IV State Champions in with a time of 46.70. This same team went on to take the 200 relay also with a time of 1:38:13 to become state champions.
Whiters did an outstanding job in 300-meter hurdles for second place with a time of 44.61.
In 4x400 relay, Bagarose, Brendan Eason, Kammren Henderson and Hunt were 5th (3:57.11). The 4x800 relay with Bagarose, Eason, Tyler Kirkland and Tristan Otteson took 4th with a time of 9:37.30.
Thrower Manuel Covell-Linares was 7th in shot put with a distance of 34-08.50 and Otteson was 8th (32-07.75) in triple jump.
In high jump, Whiters was 6th (5-02.00) followed by Otteson and Kirkland, who shared the 7th place (5-02.00). Otteson also took 9th with a distance of 15-08.75 in the long jump
On the girls’ side, senior Ashley Gray took home two medals by winning 2nd place in the discus and the shot put (31-09.75). In the discus she threw a new personal record and THS record of 99-11.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Megan Thackeray was 5th with a time of 20.23 followed by Elle Snyder (20.26). Jessie Alva was 7th (4-02.00) in high jump.
Thackeray also took 7th place in the 300 hurdles with a time of 1:00.87. The 4x100-meter relay team with Snyder, Thackeray, Jessie Vaculin and Sara Zane took the 8th place with a time of 1:01.07. In triple jump, Snyder took 8th (27-07.25).
The state champion team of the Division IV was Sierra Lutheran for the boys and girls. Tonopah finished in 4th for the boys and 8th for the girls.
