Two-day Amargosa Days event kicks off today

AMARGOSA VALLEY — The 10th annual Amargosa Days celebration is set to kick off its two-day event today at Amargosa Community Park, featuring fun for the entire family.

Everything from a parade, music, poker run, walk/run event, swap meet, craft show, 4-H archery, horseshoes, kids’ games and more will be available for those in attendance.

There will also 40 vendors on-site offering a variety of goods and services to those interested. Vendors can check in ahead of the event at noon on Friday.

Two of the vendors are new businesses that will be calling Amargosa Valley home in the future, and will be on-site speaking with potential hires.

“Two of our vendors, Acres Cultivation and the Uptown Solar Company, will be taking job applications for the two commercial projects that we hope will get started soon,” said Mike Cottingham, Amargosa Valley town manager.

Food options vary from daily dinner and lunch offerings that will be served at specific times during the event, to specialty food and treats.

“We’ve got some neat food vendors. We have a guy that going to be doing homemade ice cream, we’ve got C &S Barbecue coming from out of Pahrump,” Cottingham said.

The event has been a hit in the past, and Cottingham expects a crowd of anywhere between 500-800 people at the event at any given time.

The event will kick off Friday with a poker run at 2 p.m., leading into live music by the group, Jimmy D and the Howlin’ Dogs beginning at 5 p.m.

Dinner will be served from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and will be served by the Joyfullears.

Saturday begins bright and early with a run /walk event at 6 a.m., with a swap meet opening up at 7 a.m.

A parade will commence at 9 a.m., which includes a demonstration by the 3D Robotics team, showing off the group’s drone abilities.

From a 11 a.m. through 1 p.m. there will be children’s games, and a DJ playing hits from the 1960s from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

A noon lunch will be served by Snack Shack and a live performance by Beatty Band will take place in the park.

The craft fair will take place 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the community center, while archery by 4-H and horseshoes will be offered from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.

Dinner will be provided in the park by G&S Pitstop at 5 p.m., leading up to Pahrump’s All Star Blues band playing from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. to close the 2015 Amargosa Days.
