Trojans golfer heads Down Under

On July 3 Trojans golfer junior Austen Ancell will be on his way to Australia to participate in a golf tournament through Down Under Sports. He will be the only golfer representing Nevada.

Down Under Sports selects high school athletes annually from all over the United States to participate in sporting events in Australia and New Zealand.

This trip is just icing on the cake to a year which saw Ancell win the individual Nevada State title and then also make enough money for the trip.

The trip was funded mostly by fellow golfers who donated money for the trip and also participated in a golf tournament for the trip, which saw as many as 20 teams golf on May 24.

He raised enough money for the $6,500 trip to Australia where he will be playing golf and enjoying the cultural experiences and the many sites that Australia has to offer.

Ancell said he was excited to go on the trip.

“I can’t wait to see new lands and meet new people,” he said. “This year of high school golf was the best year so far but I’m always finding ways to get better and improve my game.”

His scores throughout the year just kept getting better.

“I’m just finding my niche on the golf course and I am shooting lower more consistently,” the young golfer said.

On the trip, he said he will just enjoy the golf and the experience.

“My goal for Australia is to go and have fun and just shoot the best I can,” he said.
