State football and soccer playoffs at a glance

Falls sports draws to a close as all high school sports have finished with the exception of football.

In Division I-A football, Moapa Valley will be going for a repeat state championship after blanking Elko 17-0. The defending champions will take on Churchill County, who is very familiar with the state playoffs, having made it to state for the past few years. They made it to the state semifinals last year and lost to Desert Pines, 16-0.

In 2013, the Green Wave made it to the state championship game and lost to Faith Lutheran 17-0. This year Churchill County had no problem defeating Chaparral High School (9-3), 40-27 and look for them to give Moapa Valley a run for their money.

The game will be up in Reno on Saturday at noon.

In Division IV, Pahranagat Valley won their 92nd game against Virginia City, easily defeating them 76-32. The win ties the Panthers for the national record set by Shattuck (Okla.) from 2003 to 2009. The team could break it this Saturday. Spring Mountain lost to Whittell (7-0), which means the Warriors will play the Panthers at 12 p.m. on Saturday at Dayton High School.

In Division I football, Bishop Gorman hosts Arbor View for the Sunset Region champion on Friday at 7 p.m.

Then for the Sunrise Region champion, Basic hosts Silverado on Friday at 7 p.m. and Liberty hosts Green Valley on Friday at 7 p.m. The winners play on Nov. 28 at 1 p.m.

Reed plays Carson City at Damante High School for the Northern Regional champion on Friday at 7:15 p.m.

The Division I state title game will be played on Dec. 5 at noon.

Soccer

In Division I-A girls soccer, South Lake Tahoe was going for a three-peat against Faith Lutheran (20-6-3) . The setting was perfect. South Lake Tahoe hosted the state championship, but it wasn't to be. The Crusaders, after years of making it to the playoffs, finally won their first soccer state title after making three state playoff appearances in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

They beat South Tahoe 1-0. This was Faith Lutheran's final year in I-A.

Arbor View (21-1-1) made it four consecutive state titles by defeating rival Coronado (19-2-2), 2-0 in the Division I state title match at North Valley High.

In Division I-A boys soccer, Clark High School at South Lake Tahoe won the boys soccer state title for the first time since 1988. The Chargers beat Tech in the last eight minutes of the game on an Ivan Lopez goal to make the score 2-1.

The North took the Division I soccer championship. Carson defeated Wooster 2-1 in overtime. Green Valley (25-3-2) was the number one boys team in the South and Cimarron Memorial (18-4-5) was the number two team.
