Wind advisory in affect today

The Pahrump Valley will see a gusty start to the weekend, as a weather system will be exiting the area, kicking up winds across the valley.

Winds will blow at sustained speeds of 20 mph to 30 mph today, with gusts reaching as high as 45 mph.

Due to the high winds, a wind advisory that went into effect Thursday afternoon remains in effect until 11 p.m. tonight.

A wind advisory means that winds of 40 mph are expected, which could make for difficult driving conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles. Drivers are urged to use extra caution while driving in these conditions.

“This is due to a spring system moving through the area, which will kick up the winds,” said Justin Pullin, National Weather Service meteorologist. “Some patchy, blowing dust will be possible with this activity as well.”

With the system, temperatures will be cooler today into Saturday, before making an upward trend beginning on Sunday.

High temperatures will reach 82 degrees today, with a low of 53 degrees overnight, with the high temperature dropping to 77 degrees Saturday with a low of 51 degrees.

These high temps are well below the normal high of 91 degrees for this time of year.

Sunday through Wednesday will see temperatures rise slightly, but remain well below normal, with highs between 80 degrees and 83 degrees.
