Softball team falls to Faith 10-4

The Trojans end a long road trip with a loss and fall to Faith Lutheran 10-4 on Monday.

The loss could jeopardize a second place standing, which depends on how the team does in their last game of the season. Pahrump is now 6-3 with one game remaining at home against Mojave today at 3:30. If the Trojans get the second seed, they will play at home against the number 3 seed of the Sunrise league next week on Tuesday.

The Lady Trojans have some hot bats and prior to the Monday game had downed their last three opponents 40-3. The fact the Trojans only allowed 3 runs in three games is a testament to the Trojans defense and pitching.

“We finally learned to hit the slow pitch. We have been slapping the ball all over the place. Soliwoda hit two solid doubles straight off the fence.

Against Chaparral Roderick had 10 strikeouts and allowed just 1 run. Against Faith she still had 12 strikeouts.

With the Cowboys, the Trojans scored 6 runs in the 4th, 2 in the 5th, 7 in the 5th.

“We were down one run until the 4th inning,” Armendariz said.

The coach was not really worried if his girls won the game on Monday afternoon against Faith.

“My main concern is staying healthy. We have to make sure we stay healthy. I am not really concerned with a win or a loss. I just want a close game and I want to play a good game.

He said the team with the least amount of errors would beat Faith.

“We need good defense because they will hit the ball,” he said. “Everyone on the team is hitting well. Even our freshman catcher Egan is doing well too.”

Armendariz’s statement was true, his team had 3 errors and Faith had 2. Despite the 3 errors, this was still better than the 9 or so errors committed against Faith during the first game.

The coach still remains optimistic and after the Faith game he said, “The game was closer than it looked. We had a situation where we got too aggressive and tried to make something happen at the plate and got thrown out. If not for that out at home we could have had bases loaded with Pryor at the plate. A win for us on Wednesday should give us the second place seed in the playoffs over Cheyenne.”

The Trojans against Faith scored 2 in the 3rd, 1 in the 5th and 1 in the 7th. Faith scored 4 in the 1st, 1 in the 2nd, 2 in the 4th and 3 in the 6th. Pahrump had 11 hits to the 13 of Faith. The difference being the Trojans left too many runners on base.

On Wednesday Lady Trojans softball will honor its seniors against Mojave. Pahrump has five seniors graduating: Kristal Kaiwi, Melanie Lawdensky, Audrey MacRae, Whitney Roderick and Bryana Soliwoda.

The Rattlers should pose no threat to Pahrump. In the first game the Trojans pounded them 13-3, but Armendariz said they also have nothing to lose too and will be going for a win. Mojave is the fourth place team and will also be in the playoffs.
