SATURDAY, JUNE 6

Hanging out with nothing planned for Saturday? Travel 140 miles north on U.S. Highway 95 for the June Jump Start. The event is a community-wide yard and bake sale complete with street tacos on the menu. Participants at no charge, are urged to bring tables and set up shop at various businesses and residences, provided they get prior permission. All proceeds and donations from the bake sale will go toward the annual Goldfield Days scheduled for July 31 through Aug. 2. Proceeds from any donated items will benefit the Goldfield Chamber of Commerce. The event will take place along Crook Street. For additional information call Patty at 775-485-9972 or 775-770-4245.

The Pahrump Gunfighters will be performing a free show at Dusty Flats, located at 100 Stagecoach next to the StageStop Casino at 5 p.m. Bring the entire family and enjoy a trip back to the Old West.

The Moose Lodge will be having a Donation Dinner from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. to collect funds to secure water rights to keep them in compliance with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Water Division, and keep them from imposing heavy fines for over-pumping water. The dinner will be chicken fried steak, country gravy, vegetable, salad and a roll. There will also be a bake sale and a raffle with some great prizes.

The Nye County Democratic Party will hold open forum meetings to discuss politics in a positive way every Wednesday from noon to 3 p.m., at their office, located at 1231 E. Basin, #12. Everyone is welcome to participate.

Registration for AYSO soccer season for kids 4-18 will be held at the Bob Ruud Community Center at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Register online or for those families without home internet, you can go to the Pahrump Community Library from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. to register online at www.easyo.org. The Valley Cruisers of Pahrump will hold their monthly meeting at Andrea’s Café inside Who’s Dunes on Highway 372. Open time starts at 5 p.m., and the meeting is at 6 p.m. A sure topic of discussion will be the planned cruise to Bonnie Springs on Saturday, June 13. Anyone interested in cars is invited to attend.

The odd pairing of English rock band The Cult and rap legends Public Enemy will be sharing the stage at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel &Casino in Las Vegas. Both bands emerged in the mid-1980s, but their styles couldn’t be more diverse. Tickets start at $39.50 and the show starts at 8 p.m. If you’re at the show and see the Times editor, say “hello.”

Several members of the community met at the Black Cow’s open-mic session on Wednesday evening, followed by a candlelight vigil at the corner of Highway 160 and Basin Avenue in the Petrack Park parking lot. Hymns and songs of freedom were sung by the group to mark Juneteenth in Pahrump for the fourth year since President Joe Biden signed the nation’s newest holiday into law in 2021.

95-year-old grand marshal shares the secret to his longevity

More than 40 friends and family celebrated Emil Janssen’s 95th birthday on Saturday, June 8 at the Pahrump Senior Center. The co-founder of Pahrump Family Mortuary will serve as grand marshal for this year’s Fourth of July parade in Pahrump, and says the secret to his longevity is simple.
