1 dead in rural Nevada wreck

Nevada authorities are reporting a fatal crash involving a pedestrian struck in the early morning darkness along U.S. Highway 6 near Coaldale Junction in Esmeralda County.

The pedestrian had just exited a vehicle to provide assistance to those involved in a separate two-vehicle wreck just moments earlier, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

The first crash was reported about 2:11 a.m., and the second about 2:15 a.m., the NHP tells the Pahrump Valley Times, citing preliminary information.

No names were immediately available, along with circumstances leading to the collisions.

The highway was closed in both directions for more than seven hours and reopened later Saturday morning.

Information from the NHP was gathered just after the crashes and based on early information. More was expected later this week. The investigation is continuing.
