Arson suspect faces new charges over DMV ruse

The former owner of the Dream Chaser Horse Rescue, who was arrested earlier this year on charges of first degree arson and animal abuse after she allegedly burnt down her home, was taken into custody again this month after she was charged with attempting to obtain a driver’s license using another person’s information.

Diane Davis, 57, was charged by the Nye County District Attorney’s office on Dec. 6 with obtaining and using identifying information of another person to harm or impersonate person, to obtain certain nonpublic records or for another unlawful purpose; offering false instrument for filing or record and burglary.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the local Justice Court in the case, on or about Oct. 15, Davis allegedly went into the Department of Motor Vehicles, located at 1780 E. Basin Road, and attempted use the personal information of another individual to apply for a driver’s license under the other person’s name.

The complaint alleges that Davis did willfully and unlawfully use the information to “avoid or delay being prosecuted for an unlawful act that is punishable as a category A felony or category B felony, First Degree Arson, a category B felony, and/or for another unlawful purpose, by applying for a driver’s license in said (person’s) name.”

The complaint goes on to allege that Davis willfully and unlawfully entered the DMV with the intent to commit a felony crime by using false information to obtain a driver’s licence under another person’s name.

Davis was reportedly taken into custody on Dec. 12 during a pre-trial hearing in her arson case after Justice of the Peace Ron Kent found that she had violated the terms of her own recognizance release from custody by picking up the additional charges.

Davis was granted an OR release from custody in July after her home was set on fire, killing 17 of her dogs.

Davis posted bail after being remanded back into custody and was reportedly released from the Nye County Detention Center on Dec. 21.

She is scheduled to be back in Pahrump Justice Court Jan. 9 for pre-trial hearings in both cases.
