IN PROFILE: Joan Heaton

BUSINESS:

Preferred RV

AGE: 73

BACKGROUND: I am the president of Preferred RV’s Association and have been a member since October. The position is voluntary. I was also the secretary of the association. I have been in management and worked as an office manager and an administrative manager. I was also a legal secretary. I have run offices in different businesses for close to 30 years.

FIRST JOB: My first job was working as a car hop serving burgers in Racine, Wisconsin. I was 16 years old.

YEARS IN BUSINESS: I worked for 30 years as an office manager or legal secretary.

PERSONAL: I enjoy spending time with my grandchildren and I like to travel. I have been to every state in the continental U.S. We are so involved with the association at the park we haven’t taken a big vacation, but we will, hopefully to Hawaii.

BUSINESS CLIMATE: RV parks are competitive, but in a friendly way. I like it here at Preferred because we have so many activities at this RV park. This particular park takes care of its people and there is always something going on here. Recently a lot of us here have been holding fundraisers to raise money for a retractable pool cover. This project has taken up a lot of my time.
