Nye County sheriff honors search and rescue captain

Nye County Sheriff Sharon Wehrly recently presented Southern Nye County Search and Rescue Capt. Kevin Mellinger a plaque in appreciation for approximately 20 years of service.

Mellinger spent the past few years as the liaison between the sheriff and the all-volunteer rescue unit.

“I thank Captain Kevin Mellinger on behalf of the entire Sheriff’s Office for the time, effort and energy he expended growing the unit,” Wehrly said. “Without his diligence, tenacity and steadfast belief in the Search and Rescue, it would have perished.

“I personally thank Captain Mellinger for being a pillar of strength for the Southern Nye County Search and Rescue, and the Nye County Sheriff’s Office,” Wehrly said.
