Police: Death behind casino investigated as ‘suspicious’

Nye County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a “suspicious death” after the body of a male was discovered in the desert behind the Pahrump Nugget Hotel and Casino late Monday morning.

The man has been identified as Jozsef Rasi, the police announced this afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Office was dispatched at approximately 10:15 a.m. to “check the welfare of a male laying” in the area behind the northeast side of the property. Rasi was confirmed deceased.

Anyone with information pertaining to this investigation is asked to contact the Nye County Sheriff’s Office at 775-751-7000 or tips can be e-mailed to NCSO_Detectives@co.nye.nv.us.

Officials with the Pahrump Nugget have not commented on the discovery. According to sheriff’s dispatch traffic, an employee of the Nugget discovered the body and authorities were then notified.

The desert area behind the property has long been a haven for some of the community’s homeless population.
