Mountain Falls Ladies Golf Association honors two of its own
President of the Mountain Falls Ladies Golf Association, Dee Trimble, gathered her association last Friday to present two lifetime achievement awards to Lucille Koenig and Jonna West.
According to Trimble, the association is an open organization to any golfer either retired or employed. The organization has been here in the valley for at least 10 to 12 years.
“We promote the game of golf, maintain its dignity and have a good time. We have team play and tournaments, Trimble said.
Trimble said the two ladies being honored, Koenig and West have been participating in the golf association since it started.
“They have been officers and they have been supportive and are deserving of a lifetime achievement award. This is the first year doing this,” she said.
West, a former business executive, said she was honored to receive the award.
“I have been playing for about eight years and I got into the sport because my husband plays. My favorite aspect of the game is the camaraderie. I was really surprised to get this award. I really enjoy the work we do working with the high school girls golf team. We pair up with them and give them good practice. It’s a big joy,” West said.
Koenig, a retired music teacher, also was surprised to get the award.
“I have been playing golf for about thirty years. My favorite activity with the association is playing golf. I have more fun with the ladies than I do with my husband. You’re out with your friends and it is fun to play with them. I have know idea why I got this award, unless it was because I am the oldest or I have the highest handicap,” she said.
President of the Nevada State Women’s Golf Association, Sherry Jackson, presented the awards to the two ladies.
“These ladies have done a spectacular job and the Nevada State Golf Association is very proud of them,” Jackson said.
Jackson said the state association has 5,000 members in it.
“Our primary function is to promote woman’s golf throughout the state. We don’t handle juniors; it is mostly women 18 and over. It is a wonderful opportunity for us and women just like these two ladies,” Jackson said.
