Track and field

Sixty-two-year-old sprinter Marvin Caperton triumphed at the Henderson Senior Games at Basic High School.

Caperton played for UCLA Bruins football in the 70s and also ran track for them. Caperton said it was good to be back on a track he last ran on 35 years ago. He participated in the 50 meter, the 100 meter and the 200-meter runs and won gold in all three events.

“I was happy at the results,” he said. “And most importantly, I didn’t get injured. The new dynamic drills I have been doing have helped prevent injuries.”

Weightlifting

Bill Prince, 78, and Mike Haigwood, 70, both won gold at Laughlin over the weekend.

The two powerlifters entered in the Amateur Athletic Union, North American Powerlifting Championships.

Prince won the 75-78 age group at 198 pounds with a bench of 250 pounds.

Haigwood entered the 70-74 age group at 181 pounds and benched 209 to win and deadlifted 231 pounds to win that event.

Haigwood is being trained by Prince at Custom Health and Fitness Gym.
