Population of Nye County grows to over 51k

The 2020 census was conducted last year and after many long months of awaiting the results, the new population figures for states, counties, cities and towns all around the United State have now been officially released. According to the data from the decennial census, Nye County and Pahrump have both seen an upswing in population over the past 10 years while several other communities in the county have experienced population declines.

Nye County Redistricting Committee members appointed

Nye County is entering the redistricting process that comes as a result of the conclusion of the 2020 Census, with a total of seven members appointed to the newly formed Nye County Redistricting Advisory Committee, which will hold its first public meeting next week.

Nevada Recovers Listening Tour makes stop in Pahrump

With billions of dollars in federal COVID-19 recovery aid making its way into the state’s coffers, Nevada State Treasurer Zach Conine’s office and the office of the Nevada governor have teamed up to host the Nevada Recovers Listening Tour, an initiative aimed at gathering public input on how the state can best put those federal dollars to use.

PVTimes and Tonopah Times take home multiple NPA awards

The team at the Pahrump Valley Times and its sister publication, the Tonopah Times-Bonanza &Goldfield News claimed top honors in several categories at the Nevada Press Association Awards this year, including first place for Investigative Story, Breaking News and Community Service. In addition, the Pahrump Valley Times won first place for General Online Excellence and both publications netted awards for advertising, as well as overall design.

Nye County Sheriff’s candidate Diane Sauter hosts campaign event

Nye County sheriff’s candidate Diane Sauter hosted a campaign fundraiser this past weekend, inviting members of the public to head on down to the Wine Ridge Clubhouse to meet her in person and spend an evening enjoying good food and good company. After the event came to a close, Sauter said she was quite pleased with the results of the shindig, which provided her with the opportunity to not only meet some locals but to also dispel some rumors that have been making their way around the community about her.

Nye County DA receives public reprimand, seeking further reveiw of case

A panel of the Nevada Supreme Court, in a split decision, has issued a public reprimand of Nye County District Attorney Chris Arabia over the handling of an appeal request from a former Nye County deputy district attorney, whom Arabia fired in September of 2019. This is apparently not the end of the matter, however, as Arabia stated he will be pursuing the case further with the aim of having the entire Nevada Supreme Court, rather than just a panel, review the matter.
