Basketball: Lady Hornets down Indian Springs in first league game

On Saturday the Lady Hornets destroyed the Thunderbirds 52-19 at home. Beatty (4-0 overall, 2-0 Division IV Southern) outscored Indian Springs (0-11, 0-2) in the first half 30-12.

In the second half, the Hornets continued to outscore the Thunderbirds 22-7 for the win.

Hornets Coach Aimee Senior said all her girls played well and kept Indian Springs out of the game.

“We found that round orange thing hooked to that big glass board.” she said. “The girls played well. We had a lot of steals, made our shots, played decent defense, and hustled a lot!”

Of course the Beatty team scored a lot. The leading scorer for the girls was Alexia Gil, who had 17 points during the game.

“Scoring was pretty well rounded and rebounding was good in the first half,” Senior said. “If we would box out, I’d be one happy coach.”

The Beatty boys team also went up against Indian Springs after the girls and also had success. They beat the Thunderbirds 43-24.

The Hornets (2-2, 1-1) took some time to warm up against the Thunderbirds (0-9, 0-3). At the half, the score was 15-12.

In the third quarter, Beatty began to pull away by outscoring Indian Springs 9-5 to increase their lead to 24- 17. In the fourth quarter the Hornets turned on the steam by scoring 19 to the T-Birds’ 7 points.

Jacob Oseguera was the leading scorer for Beatty with 15 points. Luis Flores was next with 7.

The next game for the Beatty girls is against Sandy Valley (3-1, 1-1) who just beat Tonopah girls (1-9, 0-1) in a tight game, 32-29. The game will be at home, starting at 6 p.m. for the girls and 7:30 p.m. for the boys. The Sandy Valley boys (3-4, 0-2) lost to Tonopah (4-7, 1-0) 39-28.
