Trojans fall to Virgin Valley in playoffs

Trojans volleyball ended their season with a disappointing loss to Virgin Valley on Tuesday night.

The Trojans (18-17 overall, 8-6 Sunset League) lost in three sets, 25-11, 25-15 and 26-24.

According to Athletic Director Ed Kirkwood, the Bulldogs (25-7,14-0) had a solid team.

"They had this one standout who was 6 foot 2 inches tall and could hit the ball hard," he said. "If it was my team I would have fed her all night long, but they only went to her half the time."

Kirkwood said from the get-go everything seemed to go Virgin Valley's way.

"The ball would hit the line for them, or if the ball hit the net, it would go over for them," Kirkwood said. "Everything went in their favor."

The one thing that hurt the Trojans was serving.

"We would give them five free points every game," he said. "The poor serving was probably due to the crowd yelling and screaming for the Bulldogs. It was definitely not a friendly crowd."

He also said the Bulldogs had a good rhythm going.

"Virgin Valley would just keep coming at you," he said. "They would bump, set and spike and this kept our girls off balance."

Although it was a disappointing end for the Lady Trojans, the girls had a good second half of the season and they could say they ended with a winning season.
