Clear, warm weekend ahead for the valley

After back-to-back weekends of rainy conditions in the valley, relief is finally on the way.

This weekend will be filled with sunny skies and warm temperatures, with highs flirting with triple-digit heat, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures will top out at 96 degrees officially today, but some areas of town could inch closer to 100 degrees. The high temperatures will fall to 86 degrees by Monday.

“Temps will be above average for the first couple of days, then they’ll drop to at, or below normal by Tuesday,” said John Salmen, National Weather Service meteorologist.

A high pressure system will be responsible for the higher than normal temperatures to start the weekend, but temps will fall come the start of the work week, bringing breezy conditions along with it.

“We’ve got high pressure, which is why we’ve got such warm temperatures, but as we get into the weekend, a little system will ride across to the north, increasing winds a little bit,” Salmen said. “By the time we get into Sunday we’ll have a drop in temps and we may see a little wind with it too, but it doesn’t look crazy bad.”

Lows for the next week will vary, but as much as the high temperatures, as they’re expected to be between 63 on Friday and 58 on Tuesday evening.
