H.O.P.E. Run fundraiser raises money for kids
The NyE Communities Coalition is organizing a H.O.P.E. run to benefit drug, alcohol and tobacco prevention programs to children throughout Nye, Esmeralda and Lincoln counties. H.O.P.E. stands for “healthy organizations, people and environments.”
The event will start at 8 a.m. on April 1 at Mountain Falls, with the start and finish line near the clubhouse. Registration will be open from 7-7:45 a.m. and the fee is $35.
“We’re really encouraging people to register by March 22,” Tammi Odegard, workforce director at the coalition and organizer for the event said. “They can register after that, but they will not receive a shirt and the shirt will be worth it.”
According to Odegard, the event will be a fun/run/walk. This will be its ninth year and the only difference is this year there will be no 10K run.
“In the past, the coalition has received grants to provide programs such as Red Ribbon Week in the schools,” she said. “Those grant funds are no longer available, but we feel that it is crucial to continue providing those programs.”
Odegard was really excited about what the sponsors provided this year for the run.
“We have really good sponsors this year and so the gift bags for the runners are really good,” she said.
“The food is being provided by Valley Electric this year and it will be a great breakfast. The breakfast will be after the run.”
Those preregistering will get everything, the T-shirt, gift bag, complimentary breakfast and drinks for the race participants.
The coalition said over 5,000 children in our local communities will benefit from the funds raised by this single event.
“I am really excited because a lot of elementary students start running at this run,” Odegard said.
“So this event is fueling their fire for running. And I believe a certain champion at the high school (her son Bryce Odegard) started at a H.O.P.E. run.”
