Pahrump man turns self in for Vegas hit and run
A 55-year-old Pahrump man turned himself into the Nye County Sheriff’s Office over the weekend after he was reportedly involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident in Las Vegas last Friday morning.
The man, whose name has not yet been released, went to the sheriff’s office after he said he struck something with his vehicle early Friday morning while traveling in the area of Blue Diamond and Cimmaron roads in Las Vegas on his way back to Pahrump.
The man apparently told police after he felt his vehicle hit something he made a U-turn and went back to look for whatever it was he had hit.
After searching for some time, the man said he couldn’t find anything and continued driving on his way back to Pahrump.
The victim, 29-year-old Las Vegas resident Robert Charles Pyjas was found later that morning around 10 a.m. His body was later identified by family members as NHP began an investigation into the fatal hit-and-run incident.
The Pahrump man turned himself into the sheriff’s office Saturday morning after he said he saw news reports about a fatal accident involving a pedestrian in the area where he reportedly hit something with his vehicle the morning before.
NHP was contacted, but the man was not taken into custody at that time. Trooper Loy Hixson, a public information officer for NHP, said the agency is still investigating the incident and as of Tuesday no charges or citations have been filed against the driver.
