Marine Corps League Pahrump Detachment #1199 will hold its general membership meeting at 10 a.m., July 13, in Wulfy’s RV Park Clubhouse

All Marine veterans, FMF corpsmen and patriotic Americans are invited to attend.

Women’s self-defense

The women’s-self defense classes begin its sixth year with Homeland Heroes Inc. sponsorship and the Nye County Sheriff’s Office, which began in March of 2007, after a rape and two attacks took place in Pahrump.

Women and girls’ class teach them what to do for themselves at no charge .

Learn how to be aware of your surroundings and to learn how to utilize your mind and body in defending yourself.

Classes are held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Ages for participation are 14 – 18 yrs (with parental consent), up to 99 years old.

The remaining class schedule for 2013 is:

July 20 and 21, August 17 and 18.

Beatty reading program

The Beatty Library Summer Reading Program is open to all children from 5 to 17 years of age and is held every Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m.

Community yard sale

Community Crisis Intervention Committee is sponsoring a community yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Nye Community Coalition July 20, in the auditorium.

There will be lots of furniture, televisions and household items for sale.

All proceeds will go to Pahrump Family Resource Center in partnership with NyECC’s Community Outreach Crisis Intervention Center.
