Pool service: the time is now

Getting ready to take that first dip in the pool? Have you checked all the equipment and chemicals or do you need a little help? Paul Beauparlant of Paul &Sons Pool Service opened here in 2007. In February 2011, he opened a pool supply store and kept it open for two years. The pool service continued but was taken over by his brother Marc Beauparlant on Friday.

New owner Marc Beauparlant said he’s keeping the same standards set by his brother Paul when the business opened.

“We still service the same clients, plus some, from the business Paul built.” The name has changed to Sunset Valley Pool Service.

He said he still offers chemicals, supplies and parts but gets those items from National Pool Service in Las Vegas. He also offers free beginning-of-the-season checks of chemical levels and pool equipment, but only offers services to those with in-ground pools made of concrete, fiberglass or other stable liners.

Asked about service to above-ground pools, he said, “They crack too easily and become an insurance liability.”

Marc said the most important thing pool-owners can do is to check the water. “I find customers sometimes need to drain and refill their pools. Believe it or not, the water breaks down and the chemicals used to clear the water and prevent algae from growing just won’t do their job.”

He said he tests water quality as a free service so residents won’t have to spend so much to keep the water sparkling and clear.

He said is major customer base is in Pahrump although he does service a few places elsewhere.

THE HUBB Saloon on Bell Vista Road is on the State Gaming Control Board agenda for its April 17 meeting to have a restricted gaming license recommendation sent to the commission.

The bar will work with Best Bet Products for its gaming machines and part-owner Erin Holmes said, “if all goes well, we should have gaming in THE HUBB by May 1.”

The gaming control board makes a recommendation to the gaming commission which makes the final decision and grants the license.

Best Bet Products is the applicant and has gaming equipment installed in 85 percent of the independently-owned bars here.

Draft Picks had its gaming machines installed April 1 but not without a few concerns. The company works with Golden Gaming’s slot route and was having issues with jackpot payouts after the slot route hours closed at 11 p.m.

Draft Picks manager Laraine Harper said it created a problem if one of her late-night gamblers hit a jackpot but had an early-morning flight to catch, or other similar circumstances, and couldn’t wait for normal business hours to collect the winnings.

She said the problem has been resolved and Draft Picks now has 24/7 service from the slot route company.

Draft Picks and Best Western owners CRU Property Management issued a press release statement from CRU Principal Steven Senft, “We are so thankful for the locals for their patience during our renovation and transformation of Draft Picks into a first-class video poker, gaming and sports bar restaurant.”

The bar has added a bevy of new cocktails and beers, several new menu items and 14 flat-screen TVs.
