Amargosa man arrested on drug, gun charges after high speed chase

Police arrested an Amargosa Valley man on various alleged drug charges after a short, high-speed chase in that community.

Esequiel Beltran-Garcia, 31, was arrested Monday after leading Nye County Sheriff’s Office detectives on a 2.5-mile chase that topped speeds of more than 100 mph through the town and local dairy, according to the arrest report.

The case happened after street crime detectives attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Beltran-Garcia’s vehicle for a tail-light violation around 10 p.m..

After the pursuit, an investigation allegedly found Beltran-Garcia in possession of 2 ounces of methamphetamine, 1 ounce of marijuana, and a stolen firearm wanted by the Metropolitan Police Department in Las Vegas.

He was booked on various charges including possession of controlled substance, methamphetamine; trafficking methamphetamine 28 grams plus; possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell; conspiracy to violate the Controlled Substance Act; possession of marijuana less than an ounce; possession of drug paraphernalia; person prohibited to carry firearm; possession of stolen property/firearm; tail light violation; reckless driving; evade/elude police officer with disregard; drive without valid license; no proof of insurance and reckless driving.
