BUSINESS: Dr. Keith Kohorst, Optometrist
AGE: 52
BACKGROUND: “I grew up in Ohio and came out to UNLV in 1980, where I played football. I went to the Southern California College of Optometry and graduated in 1988 and I have practiced optometry ever since.”
FIRST JOB: “My first job in life was hauling cinder blocks up a hill when I was in high school. It was terrible.”
YEARS IN BUSINESS: “We have been out here 24 years in June. I had two years in Las Vegas before that. It was by accident because I had a patient in Pahrump come to Las Vegas and said the optometrist out here was leaving. We came out and looked at the place, moved in, and the rest is history.”
PERSONAL: “I have two sons. My oldest is a senior at UNLV, where he just finished his football career. He is the all-time leading scorer in UNLV history. My younger son is a freshman there. My wife Kim is quite active in quilting in Las Vegas.”
BUSINESS CLIMATE: “It was boom town here for a while before it collapsed three or four years ago. It now seems to be coming back. We have always been pretty busy but now we are very busy and I like it.”
