A Pahrump woman is dead after drowning in her bathtub.
Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue crews were responded to the 1200 block of Sutton Street after dispatchers received reports of a drowning just before noon Friday. Upon arrival, medics found the occupant, an elderly woman, submerged in a large bathtub. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fire Chief Scott Lewis said the incident is under investigation by the Nye County Sheriff’s Office.
A kitchen fire, motor vehicle collisions, a near drowning and a series of brush fires also engaged first responders last week.
Lewis said crews were dispatched to the 1900 block of East Jacaranda Street for a kitchen fire on May 9, just after 5 p.m.
Upon arrival, crews found that the home’s fire alarm activated as a result of an overcooking incident. The fire did not extend into the primary dwelling.
On May 10, fire crews were summoned to the 5900 block of South Pahrump Valley Boulevard for a grass fire just before 3 p.m.
“Upon arrival, we found a slow-moving grass cover fire along the roadway,” Lewis said. “There were no immediate structure exposures and that fire was quickly extinguished without incident.”
Single vehicle crash
Roughly an hour later, crews were dispatched for a single-vehicle accident along South Pahrump Valley Boulevard.
“Upon arrival, we found a vehicle well off the roadway which had sustained damage as a result of leaving the road surface,” Lewis said. “The driver was not there at the time when we arrived, however, he arrived shortly thereafter. He complained of injury but declined medical transport from the scene.”
Vehicle fire
Fire crews were at the right place, at the right time early Thursday morning as they encountered a vehicle fire just before 6 a.m.
“Crews were going to refuel after returning from an interagency transport,” Lewis said. “They found a vehicle fire at Boot Hill just west of Highway 160. Upon arrival, they found the back part of a pickup truck well involved in fire. It appeared to have a mechanical failure causing a spark, as well as rupturing the fuel cell. There were no injuries reported and that fire was quickly extinguished without extension.”
Rollover crash
Hours later, fire crews were dispatched for a report of a single-vehicle rollover accident along Highway 372 at Woodchips Road just before 4:30 p.m.
“Upon arrival, we found a vehicle resting on its roof with the driver still entrapped within the vehicle,” Lewis said. “The driver was suspended by a seatbelt, as crews worked to extricate that patient. We found that their injuries consisted with flight. Mercy Air 21 was brought to the scene, where patient care was transferred and that patient was flown to a Las Vegas hospital.”
Fire crews were summoned to Highway 160 near Bride Street for a single-vehicle accident just after 8 p.m.
“Upon arrival, crews found a vehicle well off the roadway,” Lewis said. “The patient was assisted from that vehicle back to the highway where they were medically evaluated. I believe that patient was transported to the local hospital.”
Grounds fire, two-car collision
Later that day, fire crews were dispatched for a grass fire near Pahrump Valley Boulevard and Pluto Street.
“Upon arrival, we found a grass fire running alongside the roadway,” Lewis said. “There were no immediate exposures and that fire was quickly extinguished without incident. On the same day, we were dispatched for a report of an injury motor vehicle accident between South Oakridge Street and Dandelion at 7:55 p.m. Upon arrival, crews found a T-bone type collision with no entrapment. One patient sustained injuries and was transported to the local hospital.”
Near drowning
On Saturday, medics were dispatched to a local swimming facility for a near-drowning at 5:23 p.m.
“The child had been pulled from the pool and was evaluated by medical personnel,” Lewis said. “That patient was not transported to the local hospital, per the parents.”
Motorcycle traps rider
Several hours later crews were summoned to East Gamebird Road at Tehachapi Street for a single-vehicle accident involving a motorcyclist, just after 9 p.m.
“Upon arrival, we found a motorcycle accident with the bike on top of the riders’ lower extremities,” Lewis said. “That patient was unable to get out from under the motorcycle. The engine crew lifted the bike and removed the patient, who decided not to be transported, despite obvious injuries.”
Brush fires
On Sunday at 10:40 p.m. crews were dispatched to the area of Quarterhorse and Ashley avenues for a reported brush fire.
“Upon arrival, we found a brush fire within an open field,” Lewis said. “Attack (vehicle) 2 out of Station 3, extinguished that fire with no extensions.”
No injuries were reported.
“At 2:40 a.m., we were dispatched for a brush fire along the 4100 block of Paiute Boulevard,” Lewis said. “Upon arrival, we found a brush fire running alongside the roadway. Brush Two extinguished the fire without incident, and there were no extensions.”
Rollover crash
On Monday, crews were dispatched for a report of a motor vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 95 at approximately mile marker 10 in Nye County.
“Upon arrival, we found a one-vehicle rollover accident,” Lewis said. “There were two occupants assessed and one was transported to a Las Vegas-based hospital.”
