IN PROFILE: Laura Lilly

BUSINESS: Owner of Curves of Pahrump with daughter Cathy Lilly

AGE: 67

BACKGROUND: “My husband and I had a business making drive-line components for race cars, and moved to Crystal in 1992.”

FIRST JOB: “I worked in retail sales for a high-end department store in Port Huron, Mich.”

YEARS IN BUSINESS: “Cathy and I opened Curves of Pahrump nine years ago. We are members of the Chamber of Commerce and participate with charity events. We’ve donated to some of the sports teams and Kiwanis. I can’t remember ever turning anyone down who needed a gift certificate for a raffle.”

PERSONAL: “I take yoga classes with a local instructor and participate in Tai Chi at the coalition. I’m a caregiver. I enjoy helping people who can not do for themselves anymore. It’s hard, but it’s a pleasure if you can do it.”

BUSINESS CLIMATE: “I’m an advocate of shopping locally. If you can’t find it here, at least keep the revenue within the state. We need to network with other businesses and support each other. You get out of a business what you put into it.

It would help if Pahrump were more business friendly. We need jobs. Even in our remote location at 301 Oxbow, Unit 9, there are at least two or three people who come in looking for work every month.
