IN PROFILE: ‘Lucky’ Mohotti

BUSINESS: Owner of Low-Low Liquor & Mini-Mart

AGE: 42

BACKGROUND: “I was born in Sri Lanka and have always been in my family’s businesses. I’ve worked for some of MGM’s properties in Las Vegas since I’ve been in the United States, including the MGM Grand and I was with the Monte Carlo for 19 years.”

FIRST JOB: “I worked as a housekeeper for the Excalibur while taking classes in hotel management at UNLV.”

YEARS IN BUSINESS: “I’ve been in and out of Pahrump for the past 24 years and had been looking for a business opportunity. I bought this operation in September. My family has always participated in business ventures. We’ve owned a catering company and convenience stores in Las Vegas. This store has the lowest prices on liquor and cigarettes in Pahrump.

We are here for the community. I’ve donated to two charities in both money and products to raffle since September.”

PERSONAL: “Family time is important so that we carry our culture and traditions forward for the future. I like to walk and run and spend time at the gym working out.”

BUSINESS CLIMATE: “To improve the business economy here, residents need to shop here, keep their money here. I don’t think the chamber and other entities are marketing Pahrump to the business community. It should be on a national level and if funds are not available for the project, hold fundraising events. Big events get national media attention as well as raise money.”
