Pahrump resident Raymond Rogers is facing charges after being accused of allowing his two young sons to take coins out of a display case from an area business, the Nye County Sheriff’s Office announced.
As stated in an official news release, a sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to the Attic Fanatics business along East Basin Avenue on July 18, in reference to the crime.
“Upon arrival, I met with the store owner who stated he had video of a man and his two sons actively stealing coins out of a display case totaling $2,500 in value,” the deputy said. “In watching the video, I was able to see an adult male enter the store with two male juveniles. I observed them leaving and entering the store for a total of four visits.”
The deputy went on to say during each visit, all three would stay near a glass display case full of collector coins and the juveniles would take turns putting coins in their pockets.
“The man would engage the female salesperson several times during the theft and at one point in the video, stood in front of the two juveniles, appearing to watch them take items from the display case and put them into their pockets. From the video I was able to identify the vehicle driven and the vehicle owner to be Raymond Rogers.”
After viewing the footage, the deputy made contact with Rogers at his residence, the release stated.
“I asked him the names of the boys he was with on Tuesday,” the deputy’s report stated. “He told me their names and stated they were not home. He stated they were in Ash Meadows visiting their grandfather. I then took Raymond into custody and transported him to the Nye County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center without incident.”
Additionally, the deputy noted he read Rogers his Miranda rights, to which Rogers said he understood.
“He then disclosed that although he did not orchestrate the theft, he also did not stop it, nor did he return the property,” the deputy noted.
Rogers stated he “would die for his kids and sometimes he protects them too much,” the report said.
Rogers faces conspiracy theft charges and conspiracy possession of stolen items.
