Faith Lutheran too much muscle for Trojans

Trojans baseball went into the game with Faith Lutheran with a 7-1 record and a chance to tie up the standings with division leader Faith, but it was not to be. The Trojans lost 8-0 with Chad Uyeno getting the loss and pitching 3 innings.

Faith scored 5 runs in the 3rd, 1 in the 5th and 2 in the 6th. Pahrump had 6 hits to the Faith 13 and had 1 error during the game.

In the last week, the Trojans went on the road and beat two league teams, Clark, Western and on Friday they beat the Sunrise League leaders, the Chaparral Cowboys, (7-6) who were 9-1 in their division.

The Trojans were down by three in the 1st and stayed focused on the win. They scored 1 in the 2nd, 2 in the 3rd to tie it up.

The Cowboys then scored 1 in the 5th and 2 in the 6th but could not hold on as Pahrump scored 4 in the 6th to take the lead and the win.

Trojans Coach Brian Hayes called the game against Chaparral a confidence builder.

“We gave them 3 runs in the first inning and battled back and won 7-6. Most importantly, we got to see all of their top pitchers, and have a pretty good book on them offensively. Eduardo did not have his best stuff today, but battled through it and still pitched well. Offensively, we are really starting to have productive at-bats. Chaparral will likely be the number 1 seed on the other side and have some pitchers that may be able to take them deep into the playoffs,” Hayes said.

With the tough road trip behind the Trojans, they went to Faith with high hopes. Hayes believes Faith is beatable and knows he could face them again in the playoffs.

He made the following statement prior to the game on Monday.

“As for Faith, they are definitely beatable. We are going into today’s game with the mentality that we will win. Our coaches believe it and so do our players. We really don’t care what anyone outside of our team thinks. We feel that if we pitch, play solid defense, and come up with some timely hitting we will have a chance to win.”

The loss gives sole possession of first to the Crusaders and 2nd place to the Trojans. The two teams will start regionals next week on Tuesday at home for the Trojans at 3:30 p.m. against a 3rd place Sunrise team, which could be either Tech or Boulder City.
