Beatty baseball beat Adelson 13-11 on April 7 on the road for their second win of the season. It was the second meeting between the two schools in non-conference action. The Hornets (2-3 overall) lost the first game 18-5.
In the latest game, Beatty (2-3 overall, Division IV Central) was beating Adelson (7-1) 11-10 and got two more runs in the seventh for insurance. Isaias Femet got the hit that drove in the two runs. The Hornets defense and pitching held on in the bottom of the seventh, limiting the Lions to just one run for the victory.
Beatty coach Leo Verzilli was pleased with the victory.
“We came out first inning and batted around against the same pitcher that beat us before,” Verzilli said.
“We got 16 hits on the day. Offensively, batting can always be improved and our base running needs work. Defensively, our errors were much improved, both throwing and fielding, but routine still needs to be routine. I am real proud of the way they played and handled themselves on the day.”
The team is hitting .315. The lead hitters for the Hornets are Nik Zamora (.500) and Allen Sondoval (.500).
Beatty hitting:
Nik Zamora 4-5, Matt Reetz and Hugo Mendoza 3-4, Allen Sandoval 2-3, 2 RBIs; Isaias Femet 2-5, 4 RBIs.
