Trojans have respectable finish at Boulder City

The Trojans came close to winning a major invitational on Friday. For the Trojans boys, the title of the Boulder City Invitational on Friday came down to one event, the pole vault. A first-place showing would have given Pahrump the win. Trojans pole vaulter Nico Cipollini had bested the vaulters at the meet before, but it wasn’t to be.

The problem for the Trojans was that the high winds canceled the event and they had to settle for third (81 points).

The invitational was won by Division IV Spring Mountain (92 points). Virgin Valley was second and Boulder City was fourth (65).

Pahrump had two first-place finishers in Bryce Odegard and Dylan Montgomery. Montgomery took first in the 110-meter hurdles (16.73). Odegard won the 1,600 (4:56.52). Odegard is sixth in the state in Division I-A in the 1,600 and eighth in the 3,200.

Montgomery also had a second place in the 300 hurdles (42.40). Currently, Montgomery is seventh in the state in Division I-A in the 300 hurdles.

Jeremy Albertson took second in the discus (143-03). Albertson is fifth in the state in Division I-A in the discus.

Trojans girls track

Meghan McDermott led the Trojans girls to a fourth-place showing (88 points) at the Boulder City Invitational on Friday with three first-place finishes and a second.

Faith Lutheran won the invitational (144.5). Boulder City was second (109) and Virgin Valley was third (95).

McDermott took first in the high jump (4-08), the long jump (15-11) and the triple jump (33-06) and she took second in the 100-meter hurdles (17.9). She is the third best in the state in Division I-A in the 100 hurdles, second best in the triple jump, third in the long jump and fourth in the high jump.

The majority of Pahrump’s points came from field events. Caeli Havel took fourth in the discus (97-09). Annabelle Brophy took third in the high jump (4-08).

In long-distance running, Sydney Dennis took third in the 3,200 (13:15.42).
