Now, with many months of painstaking planning under their belts, event organizers are all geared up to host the 2021 Fall Festival.

Recycling is a concept that is familiar to many but in a lot of cases, those who utilize recycling bins in their communities don’t understand the necessity of ensuring the items they are attempting to put into the recycling stream are entirely empty, clean and dry. Without these three factors, products such as plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, metal cans and more can be rejected by recycling facilities, meaning they will find their ultimate destination at the landfill despite efforts to recycle.

Nevada Recovers Listening Tour coming to Pahrump

Early last month, the Nevada governor’s office and Nevada treasurer’s office kicked off the Nevada Recovers Listening Tour, a 75-day calendar of trips to communities all across the Silver State geared toward gathering public input on how the state can best use the billions of dollars that are pouring into its coffers as a result of the passage of the American Rescue Plan Act, better known as the ARPA.

County opens applications for financial analysts to work on ARPA grants

Last week, the Nye County Commission gave the green light to the Nye County Finance Department to hire two new staff members who will focus on assisting with the administration of the $9 million the county is receiving in American Rescue Plan Act funding and the application process for those hoping to fill one of those positions was officially opened on Friday, Sept. 10.

Tonopah Courthouse improvements slated

The Nye County Courthouse in Tonopah will very soon be seeing some long-awaited renovations that will provide a variety of improvements to the existing facility, with Sparks-based company Reyman Brothers Construction, Inc. awarded the approximately $321,000 contract during the Nye County Commission’s most recent meeting.

The Rotary Club of Pahrump Valley is just half a week away from its annual Cash Extravaganza, the club’s largest fundraiser of the year and one that draws plenty of attention and anticipation, and the event is now officially sold out, much to the delight of event organizers. After last year’s need to switch the event to a virtual format because of the COVID-19 pandemic, club members are all the more thrilled that they will be able to gather with the community for the 2021 event and excitement is running high as the annual bash approaches.

Nye County Commissioners receive second round of block grant project idea presentations

At their latest meeting, Nye County commissioners received a second presentation from applicants hoping to get in on the Community Development Block Grant funding made available for fiscal year 2022 and three separate ideas were put on the table by two different entities, including a couple of projects for town of Amargosa beautification and a third from the nonprofit Faith For Action aimed at tackling the local homelessness issue.

With Nye County still in the midst of administering its CARES Act and COVID Relief Program grant programs and another round of several million dollars in relief funding coming from the American Rescue Plan Act, or ARPA, the Nye County Finance Department is now seeking to hire two new grants financial analysts in the coming weeks to help bear the immense workload associated with overseeing those funds.

Pahrump Fall Festival to open with a bang

The Pahrump Fall Festival is less than two weeks away and after having to cancel in 2020, event organizers are striving to make the return of the festival a total blast for the entire community. As such, town and county officials have been working hard to bring together all of the traditional elements of the Fall Festival while also incorporating several new features, one of which is set to kick off the festival with a bang.
