Pahrump Valley High School students and staff are mourning the loss of one of their own. Math teacher Steve Craighead passed away last Wednesday evening at home from a heart attack.

TONOPAH — The Tonopah Convention Center was filled to capacity on Saturday night as close to 500 people had a steak dinner in support of Harvey Gonzalez and his family. Gonzalez was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer at the end of 2013. He has since had an operation to remove the cancer and plans on starting chemotherapy soon.
A Nye County Sheriff’s sergeant was arrested Saturday morning after he was caught allegedly stealing 60 prescription pills from the sheriff’s office.

The small business once best known for having “$99 computer deals” is again expanding its footprint. The Osborne family, owners of “Great Computer Deals,” located at 1190 E. Highway 372, #16, began selling computers four years ago at the weekend swap meet held in the location of the old Skate Zone on Calvada Boulevard. The venture has proved so successful, the owners have expanded the business model to keep up with consumer demand. Another expansion will debut to the public next month.
For years, a battle for advertising dollars to support three television stations here has stretched the budgets of local businesses needing to get products and services out to the public. Two of those stations will go off the air as their licenses are transferred to new owners.
