Final list of candidate filings

Below is a list of candidates who filed to run for office in the 2014 elections by the 5 p.m. Friday deadline. Judicial candidates filed in January. There won’t be an election for the Pahrump Town Board. Candidates in races with a political party are listed as (R) Republican (D) Democrat or (IAP) for Independent American Party, otherwise it is a non-partisan race. Candidates are listed in alphabetical order.

2014 election in full swing as races set

All countywide elected officials are running for office this year and two county commissioners, with a big field of candidates running for Nye County assessor and District 5 county commissioner.

Medical pot dispensary not allowed in town

A bill zoning medical marijuana establishments in the Pahrump Regional Planning District, but banning a dispensary, was passed by a 4-1 vote of county commissioners Tuesday.

PVHS hitting in the groove

Down in Arizona, River Valley High School was the place to be for hot prep baseball action as the Trojans played their first games of the 2014 season. A 22-year-old man is in custody after police say he allegedly arranged via the Internet to meet a 14-year-old girl at a local church to engage in sexual activities with her.

Trojans have many newcomers this year

The Trojan boys track team came up short last year and failed to take the region title as expected. The team was supposed to contend for the state title last year but the injury to top sprinter Kennan Harris blew everything out of the water.

Lady Trojans look to challenge Faith

This year the Lady Trojans should do well against Faith Lutheran. How well is still to be determined. Trojans Coach Ed Kirkwood believes the girls still have some strong talent despite losing a lot of seniors last year.

Gaming comes to Draft Picks April 1, Dotty’s third location opens

A few business changes are happening around the valley including a new gaming opportunity and the opening of the new Dotty’s on S. Highway 160 in the Edwards plaza.
