6-year-old boy mauled by pit bull flown to Las Vegas hospital

Nye County Sheriff’s Office provided limited information on a pit bull attack that seriously injured a 6-year-old boy on Tuesday.

According to a press release, the boy was visiting relatives in Pahrump just after 3 p.m. when the attack occurred.

“The injuries to the boy were not life-threatening but significant,” the release stated. “The victim was transported to Desert View Hospital and later flown to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas.”

Authorities have not released additional information including whether there was an adult present at the time of the attack or whether the dog was subsequently taken into custody of Nye County Animal Control following the attack.

On Thursday, the Nye County Animal Shelter said no pit bulls were received at the facility in recent days.

The Nye County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident for possible criminal violations.

Just this week, a local man pleaded guilty to one count of reckless endangerment following an attack by his three pit bulls on an elderly man back in March.

Kenneth Ford, 79, died April 15, at University Medical Center in Las Vegas, roughly a month after the March 13 attack.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office said Tuesday it has yet to determine the cause of Ford’s death on April 14 at the Las Vegas hospital.

The dog’s owner, Ricky Davidson, 40, is scheduled for sentencing July 6.
