Body of man found Friday near homeless encampment

The body a 67-year-old man was near a homeless camp Friday. The cause of death is under investigation.

The Sheriff's Office received a call at approximately 5:45 p.m. that a man was foundlaying in the desert near the homeless camp located just east of Crawford Way and Highway 160, according to police. Deputies responded along with detectives and found the body the man. The man was familiar to police but his identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

An investigation into the cause and circumstances of his death remains ongoing.
